Richard D. Bernard

MBA, CFP®

Financial Advisor
Government Pensions

Rick was born and raised in Lakeland in a working-class family that instilled the core values of honesty, integrity, and hard work he carries to this day. A devoted family man, Rick is married with two sons, and enjoys spending his free time hunting, cooking outdoors, and most importantly spending time with his grandchildren. Prior to becoming a financial advisor, Rick dedicated 33 years to public service as a law enforcement officer with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, where he ultimately retired as Captain in 2016.

During his time in public service, Rick was dismayed at the number of people, including other public servants, who failed to plan for retirement and ultimately made poor financial decisions when it was time to retire; many were ultimately forced to return to the workforce. Realizing that sage and timely advice from a financial planning professional could have prevented these unfortunate outcomes, Rick was determined to pursue a second career helping others plan for and achieve a financially secure retirement.

Rick’s commitment to education and professional development is evident in his academic achievements. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.A. in Organizational Management from Warner University in 2005 and earned his MBA at Florida Southern College in 2008. In 2022, he obtained his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification. His professional credentials also include Florida Certified Public Manager (CPM), and he is an active member of the community as a graduate of Leadership Bartow XIV and Leadership Polk XIV. Rick currently serves on the Boards of Directors of the Lakeland Police Foundation as well as the Bartow Chamber of Commerce.
