Nolen is a native Floridian, who is forever charmed by the Sunshine State, but he also loves to travel and explore new places. In July of 2019, he and his wife, Ashley, reached their goal of visiting all 50 U.S. states together. They are now well on their way to reaching their next goal: hiking and kayaking their way through all 62 U.S. National Parks.

When he’s not outside somewhere hiking through nature, he can be found going for a run, enjoying local delicacies, indulging in his hobby of photography or cheering on the Florida Southern Moccasins at a basketball game.

As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, Nolen has a genuine passion for helping people reach their specific financial goals. He understands that everyone’s financial picture is unique, so he has always taken a collaborative, down-to-earth approach with clients, to make sure that they are comfortable with the path ahead, and confident that they are staying on track.

Nolen has spent more than 15 years of his career, over 9 of those with the CPS team, working with business owners and their employees. He grew up helping his grandfather on his cattle ranch in southwest Florida, so he understands hard work and perseverance. He has taken the work ethic learned during those years and applies that same energy to helping his clients now.

In 2007, Nolen earned his Business Administration degree from Florida Southern College, with a concentration in Financial Management and a minor in Economics. He later obtained his Series 65 license as a Registered Investment Advisor Representative and is licensed by the Florida Department of Financial Services for Life, Health and Disability Insurance.

As the Director of the firm’s Retirement Plan Services division, Nolen also holds the Chartered Retirement Plans Specialist (CRPS®) designation through the College for Financial Planning, as well as the Accredited Retirement Plan Consultant (ARPC) designation through the Society of Professional Asset Managers and Record Keepers (SPARK).  In 2020, Nolen was named Partner at CPS.

Nolen has been a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) since 2017, is a graduate of both Leadership Lakeland Class XXX and Leadership Polk Class X, and was awarded Future Mayor of Lakeland by EMERGE Lakeland in 2014.

He serves on several local boards and executive committees, as he and his wife, Ashley, are proud and passionate supporters of many local non-profits and organizations.

Since 1896, when Michael’s Great Grandfather became the first Jewish settler in Miami, Michael and his family have been living and serving Floridians for 5 generations.  Michael is a husband to Nyrka, a Father to Anya, and a Dog Father to Coco.  Michael spends most of his weekends coaching his daughter’s soccer teams or watching his daughter’s dance performances.  He can even be spotted participating in the dance performances from time to time.  On his ‘off’ days, Michael can be found somewhere in Florida playing golf or participating in triathlons.

Michael’s interest in pursuing finance and accounting started with an interest in working for the FBI as a Special Agent in their white collar crimes unit.  After years of experience at a large public accounting firm, Michael realized that his real passion was in personal financial planning.  When he got his first job, he remembers his Dad telling him “10% in the bank, always put 10% in the bank!”.  Michael has a true passion to help others and loves being able to utilize his knowledge and expertise with financial planning to help his clients save money, build wealth and assist clients in protecting their families and doing the right things with their finances.

Michael received his degree in Business and Economics from Lehigh University and earned his Masters in Taxation from Florida International University.  Michael is a Florida CPA as well as a CFP® and has achieved the Personal Financial Specialist designation through the AICPA.  Michael’s passion for education and kids is also reflected in his community service.  A graduate of Leadership Lakeland Class XXIX, Michael has served or is currently serving on the Boards at All Saints Academy, Florida Southern Masters of Accountancy Program, Florida Southern Fraud Conference, Kiwanis Club of Lakeland, Campfire Sunshine Central Florida, AMI Kids, EMERGE Serves, Estate Planning Council of Polk County, FICPA – Polk County Chapter, and Temple Emanuel.  At the age of 24, Michael began serving as a Big Brother in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Greater Miami.  He is still close friends and a mentor with his ‘little brother’ two decades later.
